Tiger Bay Ramblers (TBR) is a Cardiff-based walking group for people of working age and part of The Ramblers charity. Established in 2001 as part of a national initiative to encourage younger people to join, the group originally focused on those in their 20s and 30s (often known as a “Hike” group), complementing the existing Cardiff Ramblers.
Over time, many members have chosen to stay with the group, and TBR has evolved into a welcoming community for adults of all ages. Today, members range from their late teens to those aged 60+, though most are in their 40s to 60s.
👉 If you are in your 20s or 30s and would like to walk and socialise with people in a similar age group, please see our dedicated 20s and 30s Tiger Bay Ramblers page for more information.

What we do
TBR offers a varied programme of walks, social events, weekends away, and holidays, all organised by our members on a voluntary basis.
- Walks take place most weeks, often more than once
- Sundays are the most popular day, with additional walks on Saturdays and (in summer) weekday evenings
- Routes range from short, local walks to more challenging hikes of 12+ miles in areas such as the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains
While our walks programme is generally open, social events, weekends away, and holidays are typically reserved for members. To get a feel for what we offer, you can explore the social events, past holidays and weekends away page.
We also host a summer recruitment event (usually a BBQ or picnic or in 2026 a 25th anniversary party), giving prospective members an opportunity to meet the group.
If you’re unsure whether TBR is right for you, you’re very welcome to join us for three walks before you need to decide to become a member.
How we’re run
The group is managed by a voluntary committee, elected annually from within the membership. They oversee the running of the group and its policies.
If you have any questions or would like to find out more, please contact the committee via the email addresses on the
Committee page or visit our FAQs page for further information.
